Humanities Washington opens minds and bridges divides by creating spaces to explore different perspectives. As the state’s flagship nonprofit for public humanities programming and the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1973, it aims to foster understanding and dialogue across diverse communities.
Opportunity Grants aim to support statewide access to public humanities presentations and events, focusing on small or rural organizations. The grant program emphasizes projects led by and serving underrepresented communities, including those identifying as Black, Indigenous, or people of color, young people aged 18-35, rural residents, individuals with disabilities, immigrants or refugees, and non-English speakers. The grants encourage participation of at least one humanities scholar in each project to ensure depth and expertise in the presentation and discussion of complex social issues, thereby enhancing community understanding and context.
