The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation (IEJF) aims to improve access to justice for all Illinois residents, particularly those of low income who cannot afford legal representation. It provides funding to nonprofit organizations that offer free legal services, including advice, consultations, and representation, as well as mediation services to individuals facing legal challenges such as eviction.
The IEJF grant program is designed to support services that enable access to basic necessities, protect domestic violence victims, assist seniors in recovering fraudulently obtained funds, and aid in resolving family crises. With a budget of approximately $4.8 million, it funds Civil Legal Aid initiatives across five categories: Legal Information for the Public, Self Help Legal Assistance Projects, Mediation Services, Telephone Advice & Referral Services, and Civil Legal Assistance. Additionally, the IEJF may solicit proposals for research, training, and technical assistance in these areas to bolster the ecosystem of legal support services.
