After School Programs – Non-School Districts

From Illinois State Board of Education

The mission focuses on supporting high-quality and comprehensive educational programs for migrant children to mitigate educational disruptions due to frequent moves. It aims to ensure these children are not disadvantaged by inconsistencies in educational systems among states, are provided with appropriate and coordinated educational and supportive services addressing their special needs, have opportunities to meet academic standards, and benefit from systemic reforms, contributing to their ability to excel in school and transition successfully to postsecondary education or employment.

    Overview

The grant's core goals are to activate partnerships across various sectors, including local government, education, faith-based, civic, and philanthropic organizations, to foster sustainable support systems for children and families. It aims to ensure students are present, focused, and ready to learn by providing funding for collaborative approaches. Specifically, the grant supports initiatives that improve academic outcomes, offer enrichment activities in a safe environment, and strengthen public, private, and philanthropic partnerships to deliver quality support services for students facing significant challenges. The funding encourages the expansion of after-school programs, summer programming, and bridge programs to serve more students and enhance activities, alongside fostering closer collaboration with schools and community-based groups. The total grant funding caps at $3 million, with a maximum of $500,000 per eligible grantee, and does not require cost-matching.
