The Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP) is dedicated to supporting research into the civilizations of the Aegean and related areas from the Paleolithic to the onset of Greek writing, around the first Olympiad in 776 BC. It awards grants for various archaeological endeavors including excavation projects, field surveys, conservation, and research, aiming to foster technological advances and international collaboration in Aegean prehistory studies.
The Publication Team Grant by INSTAP aims to assist excavation directors in the preparation of their publications after the excavation phase is completed. This grant offers the services of specialists based at the INSTAP Study Center for East Crete, covering roles such as artists for pottery and small finds, conservators, photographers, petrographers, and ground penetrating radar (GPR) teams. While INSTAP covers the specialists’ salaries, the excavation director must provide the necessary workspace and arrange for permits and other facilities. Projects eligible for this grant do not need to have previously received basic support from INSTAP.
