The Kelly Brush Foundation is dedicated to making active lifestyles a reality for anyone with a spinal cord injury, embracing the belief that "Life is better active!" They support individuals with paralysis from spinal cord injuries in leading active and engaged lives.
The Active Fund grant program by the Kelly Brush Foundation aims to empower individuals with paralysis resulting from spinal cord injuries by providing them financial assistance to acquire adaptive sports equipment. This reflects the foundation's commitment to leveraging the transformative power of sport and recreation to foster inclusion and surmount the challenges of paralysis. The program has supported over 1,670 people across all 50 states in purchasing various forms of adaptive sports gear like handcycles, monoskis, sport and racing chairs, and hockey sleds. Grants don’t have a set minimum or maximum, but typically do not exceed $5,000 with an average grant amount around $3,500. Applicants can receive one of three decisions: a full or partial award, a "Try It First" Grant of $500 for program or rental fees to experience the desired equipment, or a denial.
