Established in 1995 by Lenny Zakim, The Lenny Zakim Fund (LZF) strives for social, economic, and racial justice. It builds deep relationships and bridges among communities. Its mission emphasizes listening to those most affected by inequity, providing them with the necessary funding, resources, and support for creating lasting change. LZF is dedicated to social justice, grassroots leadership, diversity and belonging, continuous learning, bridge building, responsiveness, and love.
The Lenny Zakim Fund supports grassroots organizations through various initiatives aimed at empowerment and justice. It offers unrestricted, multi-year general operating support grants, educational seminars, workshops, management assistance, coaching, pro bono legal services, and fosters open relationships with grantees. LZF is committed to a comprehensive and responsive approach in meeting grantee needs, enhancing networking opportunities, engaging donors and board members actively, and promoting a culture of learning. Funding areas include child and youth development and education, access to food, housing, and economic opportunity, health promotion and accessibility, support for immigrants and refugees, violence prevention, criminal justice reform, family outreach, LGBTQIA community support, and civil and human rights advocacy.
