The mission centers on providing educational and leadership opportunities for Chinese students through service learning and intercultural exchange in the United States, inspired by Professor Wing-Tsit Chan and the Lingnan University motto "Education for Service." This embodies a dedication to fostering a lifelong commitment to service among participants.
The Lingnan W.T. Chan Fellowships Program is designed to offer Chinese students unique educational and leadership development opportunities via service learning and cultural exchange initiatives in the United States. Honorably named after Professor Wing-Tsit Chan, this program encourages a deep commitment to service and aims to nurture skills in intercultural communication, non-profit sector professionalism, personal growth, and leadership. Eligible Fellows are chosen based on their service dedication, maturity, adaptability, experiential background, and proactive demeanor. The program matches each Fellow with a U.S.-based non-profit organization tackling essential social issues, supported by insightful guidance from program coordinators. This hands-on internship is complemented by stays with American families, participation in seminars focusing on non-profit management and community enhancement, cultural engagements, and compulsory reflection meetings, enriching the Fellows' service work and cross-cultural cooperation experience.
