The Michigan Botanical Foundation aims to support the study, education, and preservation of Michigan's flora. It backs botanical research, educational publications, and other related activities that enhance the understanding and conservation of the state's plant life.
The grant program of the Michigan Botanical Foundation seeks to fund research and community projects aligned with its mission of preserving and enhancing knowledge of Michigan's flora. Specific interests include research on Michigan plant species, especially those that are rare, threatened, or endangered; studies on the competition between invasive and native species; and floristic surveys. The foundation also supports environmental projects focused on raising awareness about Michigan's flora, projects aimed at the preservation, reclamation, or restoration of native habitats, and efforts that promote public education on these topics. Additionally, educational initiatives such as workshops, conferences, and exhibits that aim to increase public awareness and knowledge of Michigan's plants, as well as student scholarships for botanical conferences and educational programs, are eligible for funding. Grants range from $100 to $1,500, with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis, and are awarded when sufficient funding is available, assessing each application’s educational value regarding Michigan's flora.
