Montana DNRC Hazardous Fuels Reduction Grant Program

From Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation (DNRC)

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation's mission is to help ensure that Montana's land and water resources provide benefits for present and future generations.

    Type of Support

    Overview

The Hazardous Fuels Reduction Grant aims to mitigate the risk of wildland fires and the subsequent catastrophic losses to resources and property, especially in high-priority areas adjacent to National Forest System lands. By encouraging landowners to adopt proactive measures against hazardous fuel conditions, the grant supports efforts to reduce ignition potential within home ignition zones and fosters the application of wildfire resilient principles. Project funding targets non-federal lands to safeguard communities through activities like thinning, pruning, slash disposal, pile burning, and other conventional fuels reduction techniques. Additionally, the grant supports public education and outreach to raise awareness of the risks and responsibilities associated with living in wildland-urban interfaces. Projects must be situated within a defined proximity to NFS lands, commence within a specific timeframe relative to adjacent NFS hazardous fuels reduction activities, and align with Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) priorities to qualify for funding.
