We promote grassroots philanthropy and pool our resources to fund projects led by Asian American women who use their creativity to move hearts, minds, and communities to be free of fear, bias, and injustice. Our goals are to channel more resources into our communities, engage more people in creative projects, shine a spotlight on our experiences and stories, promote progressive social change, and raise the visibility of Asian American women in philanthropy.
The Birth Justice Initiative of the Ms. Foundation aims to advance equitable birth outcomes, strengthen grassroots Black, Indigenous, and women of color-led organizations in the birth justice sector, and support intersectional movements that acknowledge diverse birthing, parenting, and family building experiences. This initiative seeks to empower Black, Indigenous, and women of color, including trans women and non-binary individuals, as leaders in advocating for policy and cultural shifts towards birth justice. The program emphasizes the necessity of addressing racial disparities in healthcare, especially those affecting maternal mortality rates among Black women and other women of color. The initiative funds organizations tackling a broad array of issues related to birth justice, including mental health, infertility, abortion access, and more, using strategies like narrative change, advocacy, and direct service. For the current grant cycle, the initiative offers one-time grants of $50,000 to $100,000 for a two-year period to selected organizations not previously funded by the Ms. Foundation’s Birth Justice Initiative.
