Provide independent, objective analysis and advice to the nation and conduct other activities to solve complex problems and inform public policy decisions
The Gulf Research Program's Science Policy Fellowship program is designed to help scientists sharpen their skills through practical application in the interests of Gulf Coast communities and ecosystems. It offers fellows a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience at the intersection of science and policy by working on the staff of various environmental, natural resource, oil and gas, and public health agencies across the Gulf of Mexico region. The fellowship focuses on activities such as research, evaluation, restoration planning, stakeholder outreach, and policy development, with the aim of making scientific information not just useful but also useable. Fellows are provided mentorship and work to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and policy application. Moreover, the program offers a generous stipend and health allowance, along with additional support for professional development and travel expenses for required conferences or events.
