The mission of the National PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children through collaboration, commitment, accountability, respect, inclusivity, and integrity.
The PTA Connected: Be Internet Awesome grant, sponsored by Google + YouTube, is aimed at elementary and middle schools through their local PTAs. It offers $1,250 to 50 selected PTAs to facilitate an engaging program focused on educating parents, caregivers, and students about the importance of safe and responsible internet use. The program emphasizes creating a shared understanding among parents and caregivers of what it means to be Internet Smart, Alert, Strong, Kind, and Brave. It includes the provision of resources for hosting the Be Internet Awesome program, facilitating conversations on healthy online habits, and introducing Google's online safety features and tools, like SafeSearch and Parental Controls, through an additional new segment of programming. Participants are also required to attend a virtual training session and provide feedback on the program.
