NDN Collective’s mission is to build the collective power of Indigenous Peoples, communities, and Nations by supporting their right to self-determination, aiming to create a world founded on justice and equity for all people and Mother Earth. They champion Indigenous self-determination through supporting frontline organizers, actions, and movements focusing on the defense of land, air, and water; sustainable and regenerative development according to Indigenous values; and the revitalization and celebration of Indigenous cultures, ceremonies, languages, and ways of life.
The Community Action Fund (CAF) by NDN Foundation is designed to provide urgent response grants to support Indigenous Peoples’ initiatives concerning the defense, development, and decolonization of their people and Mother Earth. The fund aims to quickly mobilize resources to Indigenous activists facing local challenges, with a priority on frontline, grassroots, and community-based efforts battling against harmful resource extraction and human rights violations. CAF supports actions that include community organizing, voice amplification, and various non-violent direct actions (NVDA) like marches, camps, boycotts, and prayer vigils. These actions may target climate justice, racial equity, industry challenges, just energy transitions, healing justice within movements, and training for community organizers. Direct expenses for travel, supplies, equipment, consultant services, and supportive staff for organizing, protesting, or responding to climate events can be covered. Grants typically average $15,000, can go up to $30,000, and are intended for projects with terms no longer than six months.
