Overview

The Farm to School (F2S) School Gardens Grant, issued by the New Hampshire Department of Education, has a broad goal of encouraging and financing the implementation or expansion of school gardens and reinforcing Farm to School efforts. This grant is designed to support New Hampshire School Food Authorities (SFA) or Reporting Authorities (RA) in utilizing school gardens to enhance school food service operations. The grant highlights several positive impacts of school gardens, including improved student attitudes towards fruits and vegetables, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, enhanced job satisfaction and staff retention, provision of quality fresh products at competitive prices or no cost, and increased school meal participation. Eligible applicants can receive funding even without existing school gardens, with the primary aim being the provision of support for the implementation and expansion of school gardens and Farm to School efforts, benefiting child nutrition programs. Each selected school is awarded $6,000 to aid these initiatives.

Preferences for Competitive Funding:

Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to the thoroughness of:

  • The agricultural project description, objectives, and aspirations.
  • Budget clarity regarding the allocation and expenditure of funds.
  • The educational benefits arising from the implementation of the school gardening initiative.
