NMV aims to invest in entrepreneurs and activists who are building progressive power in the United States, focusing on environmental protection, economic equality, racial justice, and fostering a thriving democracy. They are committed to democratizing access to capital, especially for those historically overlooked in the startup community, and prefer ventures that are sustainable, scalable, and have a clear plan for generating revenue or growth.
For 2024, NMV will concentrate on early-stage companies in need of venture investment that work within media & narrative, organizing & advocacy, and elections & civic engagement. They are particularly interested in ventures that offer innovative solutions in media tech, civic tech, and political tech, including those that utilize AI. NMV prefers to fund ventures that have an existing user base, a proven concept, and a clear strategy for revenue generation or growth. However, they may consider ventures without a user base if there's compelling evidence of the idea's efficacy. The grant supports work that is sustainable and enhances progressive power. Investments typically range from $50K to $100K, often through convertible notes or SAFEs for for-profits, and unrestricted grants for nonprofits. Support for selected organizations includes access to a founding network, webinars, one-on-one coaching, and help with funding.
