The New York State Department of Labor aims to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
The grant's primary goal is the expansion of New York State Registered Apprenticeship (RA) training programs, intended to create more employment opportunities for approximately 130 apprentices, specifically targeting underrepresented populations. These opportunities will focus on trades within high-demand occupations in emerging fields such as Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare, Hospitality, and Information Technology, among other demands. The grant emphasizes the growth of NYS RAs outside of the construction trades unless for specific facility maintenance roles owned by the employing business entity. Eligibility for this funding is specified for sponsors of active or probationary NYS RA programs, including individual employers, groups of employers, or partnerships between employers and labor unions, as well as signatory employers to active or probationary group programs, and applicants pending approval of a NYS RA program.
