Northwest Health Foundation is dedicated to ending the realities of racism, ableism, and the impacts of one's environment that hinder living a healthy life. They believe in providing everyone the chance to lead a healthy life as they define it and assert that advancing equity improves the social, political, and bodily/mental health of the entire region. Furthermore, through initiatives like the Disability Justice Leaders Collaborative, they aim to uplift the voices and experiences of disabled BIPOC, advocating for disability justice and addressing the challenges faced by these communities.
The Advancing Disability Justice Grants aim to support the capacity building of disabled BIPOC leaders and groups within the region for community building and civic engagement efforts. This encompasses leadership development, organizational enhancement around disability justice, cultural programming, movement building, community organizing, and policy advocacy. Funding supports a range of needs from staff time and stipends to accommodations and childcare, offering one-time project grants up to $5,000 or $10,000 based on the project's scope. The grant prioritizes projects led by and for disabled, neurodivergent, and d/Deaf BIPOC, focusing on capacity building or related work, and aligning with the Disability Justice Principles. Additional funds are available for accessibility costs to ensure inclusivity and participation.
