Our mission is to provide a forum for gardeners and plant lovers in the Pacific Northwest to expand opportunities, share interests, and learn about horticulture.
Type of Support
Overview
The Northwest Horticultural Society (NHS) offers grants to community-focused organizations to support its mission of enhancing horticultural practices and education in the Pacific Northwest.
Project Requirements
Duration: Projects should achieve clearly defined outcomes within 12 months of fund disbursement, with all funds fully expended within that timeframe.
Larger Programs: If part of a larger initiative, detailed plans demonstrating the overall program's feasibility and the standalone value of the proposed project are required.
Staffing Expenses: Funding for staffing must be directed exclusively towards project-specific activities.
Selection Criteria
The NHS Grants Committee evaluates applications based on their alignment with one or more of the following objectives:
Horticultural Education: Provide horticultural education to local communities.
Community Participation: Increase community involvement in horticultural activities.
Marginalized Communities: Serve historically marginalized communities, including indigenous peoples of the Salish Sea region, people of color, and residents of low-income neighborhoods.
Access to Nature: Expand community access to natural spaces, gardens, and community vegetable gardens.
Public Spaces: Promote the creation of horticultural beauty and biodiversity in publicly accessible spaces.
The NHS grant program is designed to support impactful horticultural projects that educate, engage, and benefit the communities in the Pacific Northwest, with a special emphasis on those west of the Cascade Mountains.
