The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) strives to increase Oregon’s cultural visibility and vitality by supporting unique opportunities for Oregonians to engage with innovative arts and culture.
The Oregon Historic Trails Fund primarily supports projects that aim to interpret, preserve, or maintain Oregon's trail-related resources, acknowledging the state's rich cultural and natural heritage. This initiative is interested in funding efforts related to marketing, education, advocacy, and research connected to historic trails. Each year, approximately $40,000 may be allocated across one or more grants. An advisory committee with expertise in Oregon’s historic trails and cultural resources reviews applications and recommends funding decisions to the OCF board. The fund also seeks to encourage citizen involvement to increase public awareness and enjoyment of these historic trails. While a significant portion of its revenue comes from the sale of Oregon Trail license plates, a long-term goal of the fund is to establish a sustainable resource base to support local efforts in promoting these historic paths.
