To protect, conserve, and enhance the Commonwealth's aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities.
The Boating Infrastructure Grant Program focuses on providing grants for transient moorage spaces for recreational motorboats 26 feet and longer. It supports projects that offer short-term (10 days or less) moorage facilities, enhancing the infrastructure for boaters who are passing through. The program is built on a competitive grant system that allows states to apply for funds to develop and maintain these facilities for transient non-trailerable boats. This includes two tiers of grant support: Tier 1, for small-scale projects offering up to $100,000 annually to each state, and Tier 2, for larger projects requesting more than $100,000, which are evaluated and competed for at the national level. The program aims to fund projects that significantly improve the available facilities for transient boating, thus promoting recreational boating activities.
