To get more people riding bikes more often by making bike riding better for everyone. Since 1999, PeopleForBikes has been working to create a prominent place for bikes in transportation, mobility, and recreation decisions at all government levels. They focus on ensuring bikes are seen as a real solution for improving health, connecting communities, boosting economies, strengthening the nation, and protecting the planet through proactive planning, a broad vision for government affairs, and making it convenient for leaders to prioritize bikes.
The grant program prioritizes funding infrastructure projects that enhance a community’s City Ratings score by creating connections in a low-stress bikeway network or improving access to recreational amenities. It supports both material and non-material costs related to the construction of permanent bike infrastructure like trails, paths, parks, greenways, and lanes, as well as temporary "quick-build" projects that lead to permanent solutions. Additionally, it funds land acquisition for bike infrastructure and events or programs that promote cultural acceptance of biking. The program focuses on making a difference, especially in communities affected by historic disinvestment.
