    From Pulitzer Center

To champion the power of stories to make complex issues relevant and inspire action

    Type of Support

    Overview

The Eyewitness Photojournalism Grant, a collaborative effort by the Pulitzer Center and Diversify Photo, aims to support projects by independent photojournalists who have been historically underrepresented in the global media landscape. Launched in 2020, the grant seeks to address the ongoing challenges faced by BIPOC and non-western photojournalists in the U.S., and has since expanded its scope to include proposals from independent photojournalists worldwide. The grant supports costs associated with reporting, such as transportation, translator fees, lens rental, food, and personal expenses. Additionally, recipients have the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned visual and photojournalists. This initiative reflects a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in photojournalism, encouraging the coverage of underreported stories by giving a platform to voices that are often overlooked in the industry.
