To champion the power of stories to make complex issues relevant and inspire action
The 1619 Education Impact Grant aims to support educational professionals in K-12 learning environments who are working on projects that utilize resources from The 1619 Project. The grant focuses on two main objectives: to improve the awareness and critical thinking of students and/or educators about the legacies of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans to U.S. society, and to equip students and/or educators to take action towards advancing racial justice. The grant encourages projects that extend beyond single classrooms to engage larger groups on the school, district, or community level. Grant support ranges from $1,000 to $5,000, aiming to fund initiatives such as school or program-wide curriculum initiatives, family and community engagement events, exhibitions of student engagement with The 1619 Project content, and larger scale projects involving partnerships among schools, cultural institutions, or community organizations. These projects should reach from at least 500 to at least 2,000 people within a five-month grant period, enhancing communal understanding and interaction with The 1619 Project's themes.
