The Rhode Island Foundation seeks to address the health and healthcare needs of Rhode Islanders by managing and distributing funds from generous donors. These funds are designated for specific medical conditions, aiming to support nonprofit organizations working within these areas to improve health outcomes and address health inequities and disparities across the state.
The Community Grants program focuses on funding projects that foster community-building by creating and enhancing the places where people connect and interact. Grants up to $10,000 are provided for initiatives such as developing performance spaces, urban farms, hosting neighborhood meals, and making historic and natural areas more accessible. The 2023 focus is on projects that build social networks, develop enduring relationships, enhance public spaces as community anchors, facilitate collaboration for goal setting and problem solving, and share traditions. Priority is given to projects that benefit or are led by historically marginalized communities, offer geographic diversity across Rhode Island, and have a detailed plan for fund utilization, including contingency planning for unforeseen delays.
