These easements are vital tools for ensuring these lands remain undisturbed and continue to support private ownership, sustainable forestry practices, and active land management according to a forest management plan. The program is competitive, with applications reviewed annually and only the most critical projects receiving funding. The Federal government may cover up to 75% of the costs, necessitating at least 25% match from private, state, or local sources.
