The mission of the Shenandoah Community Foundation is to support programs in Shenandoah County or those that directly benefit its citizens. They aim to build on community strengths and find solutions to community problems through grants in various priority areas, while also being open to innovative ideas from the community.
The Shenandoah Community Foundation's Community Grants program is designed to support organizations and associations in six broad areas. These areas include arts and culture, civic affairs, the environment, education, health, and family, child, and social welfare. The program's goals are to improve public awareness and access to arts and culture, enhance quality of life in neighborhoods, encourage responsible community development and environmental responsibility, support education and career planning initiatives, improve healthcare for vulnerable populations, and assist in strengthening families and addressing needs of at-risk children. The Foundation is open to emerging community-driven ideas and may award grants to qualified charities or organizations known to meet local needs.
