The Shubert Foundation is the nation’s largest funder dedicated to unrestricted funding of not-for-profit theatres and dance companies. The Shubert Foundation is especially interested in providing support to professional resident theatre and dance companies that develop and produce new American work.

Overview

A limited number of awards are made to preeminent graduate drama programs of universities for scholarship assistance. These programs are evaluated principally in terms of their ability to train and develop theatre artists.

Review Criteria

Grants are awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Track record of exemplary theatrical training in MFA programs (Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Producing, Stage Design, etc.)
  • Notable professionals from the theatre industry among faculty
  • Recent track record of graduates who have achieved impact in the performing arts
  • Programs that consider merit and need
