To fund research and education to improve emergency medicine practice and patient care
The Pilot Research Grant offered by the Emergency Medicine Foundation is designed to provide preliminary "starter" funding for research that has the potential to develop into a larger project, eventually attracting more significant grant funding. Targeting a wide audience from clinical to basic science researchers, this grant encourages the generation of preliminary data that will lay the foundation for impactful emergency care research. Proposals are encouraged to describe how the pilot could evolve into further work, emphasizing feasibility and high risk/high reward projects. The grant supports collaborations between research universities and community emergency departments and values the involvement of operational and policy partners. Applicants must align their proposals with EMF's priorities, which include the value of emergency medicine, safety/quality/error prevention, emergency physician wellness, workforce issues, emergency medicine practice, health disparities, education research, and basic science.
