To fund research and education to improve emergency medicine practice and patient care
The GEAR 2.0 Pilot Project Grant has broad goals to promote transdisciplinary research in geriatric emergency medicine, specifically for persons living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners. It aims to provide funding for pilot projects that will lead to larger research projects, improve emergency medical care for PLWD and their care partners, and ultimately have a meaningful impact in these areas. Priorities include studies on emergency department care transitions, practices, dementia detection, and communication and decision-making. Proposals are encouraged to focus on issues of diversity, inclusion, and health equity, and preference is given to early-stage investigators and projects that encourage collaboration across institutions and involve PLWD and their care partners actively.
