Support humanitarian application of geoscience knowledge and technology around the world. Fund projects that benefit communities in need facing environmental hardship and natural hazards due to resource shortages, and natural and man-made disasters.
Geoscientists without Borders® (GWB) aims to support the humanitarian applications of geoscience globally. It focuses on bringing together skilled geoscientists with communities that are facing challenges due to environmental hardships and natural hazards such as water shortages, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, and volcanoes. The program provides funding for projects that offer sustainable humanitarian benefits and encourages the involvement of students and universities, especially those located near the project sites, to foster educational growth and career opportunities in the geosciences. Projects may address issues related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and other areas relevant to GWB. Awards can go up to $50,000 per year for a maximum of two years, with a particular emphasis on involving local students in the projects to enhance their educational experience and introduce them to careers in the geosciences.
