The Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists Foundation (SIPES) was established to facilitate charitable, educational, and scientific endeavors within the earth sciences field. Its activities include providing seminars, managing an earth science film library, publishing materials for the National Park Service, and administering annual scholarships since its foundation in 1981.
The Earth Science Scholarship Program aims to support outstanding students in earth science and engineering disciplines. Through this program, the SIPES Foundation has awarded scholarships to over 200 students since 1981, emphasizing the Foundation's commitment to fostering educational opportunities within the domains of geology, geophysics, and engineering, particularly those areas connected to domestic energy exploration and development.
