The SVP Field Training Award is designed to support those in various stages of their careers in vertebrate paleontology, including undergraduate and graduate students, early career paleontologists, preparators, and land managers with responsibility for paleontological resources. The grant supports individuals who demonstrate a need for field training for their professional development in vertebrate paleontology. Recipients gain practical experience through active participation in fieldwork under the guidance of experienced paleontologists or preparators. The award addresses the scarcity of vertebrate fossil field technique training courses and aims to advance the conservation of vertebrate fossils and the progression of research within the field. This grant program offers a stipend of $1,500 to cover expenses related to participating in fieldwork and training, with expectations for the allocation of the grant funds within two years of the award date.
