The In These Mountains: Central Appalachian Folk Arts & Culture FY24 Project Grants aim to support projects that uphold the cultural heritage of Central Appalachia through a variety of means. This includes efforts in sharing, teaching, preservation, documentation, and ensuring the continuity of traditional folk arts and cultures within Kentucky, North Carolina, or Tennessee. Eligible applicants span a diverse array of organizations such as community cultural groups, educational institutions, libraries, museums, and more, provided they serve at least one Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) county in the specified states. Each state (Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee) will have three projects chosen, totaling nine recipients. The grant awards are set at $10,000, fostering the development and continuation of practices like Cherokee stamped pottery, African American buck dancing/clogging, and Anglo American ballads, among others, in Central Appalachia.
