The South Carolina Arts Commission (SCAC) strives to enhance the cultural and artistic landscape of South Carolina by supporting and promoting arts education, community arts development, and artist development. Through grants and other initiatives, the SCAC aims to ensure all residents have access to the arts and to foster an environment where the arts can flourish.
General Operating Support (GOS) grants provide three years of unrestricted support for arts organizations' basic operations. This support aims to bolster entities that range from emerging to established, with primary missions involving production, presentation, service, and/or education within the arts. Specifically, the grant seeks to empower organizations that contribute significantly to the cultural and artistic landscape by providing ongoing arts experiences and services across the state. Funding does not have a pre-set range and is determined based on factors such as application reviews, applicant's budget size, available funds, and board approval. Funds awarded must be matched with cash at a ratio of 3:1, excluding in-kind expenses.
