The South Carolina Arts Commission (SCAC) strives to enhance the cultural and artistic landscape of South Carolina by supporting and promoting arts education, community arts development, and artist development. Through grants and other initiatives, the SCAC aims to ensure all residents have access to the arts and to foster an environment where the arts can flourish.
The District Arts Coordinator Grants focus on supporting school districts in appointing or broadening the responsibilities of a district arts coordinator. This role is pivotal for the development and execution of an in-depth district-wide arts education strategic plan. The grants aim to cover various disciplines, including creative writing, dance, music, theatre, media arts, and visual arts. The district arts coordinator, an individual with relevant experience in these arts disciplines, is tasked with overseeing the arts curricula and the professional development of arts teachers within the district. The role mandates a part-time dedication at the district level to ensure comprehensive planning and implementation of the arts into the school curriculum, based on a strategic plan spanning three to five years. Financially, the program offers up to $30,000 annually for three years, with a requirement for a 1:1 matching contribution from the grantee.
