The South Carolina Arts Commission (SCAC) strives to enhance the cultural and artistic landscape of South Carolina by supporting and promoting arts education, community arts development, and artist development. Through grants and other initiatives, the SCAC aims to ensure all residents have access to the arts and to foster an environment where the arts can flourish.
The School Arts Support Grants aim to help schools tackle learning loss in the arts due to the COVID-19 pandemic by enhancing arts education. These grants focus on acquiring materials, equipment, or professional development opportunities to promote innovation in arts classrooms and support arts integration in remediating core subjects. The grant encourages the use of funds for materials that exceed current budget capacities, targeting areas where students have fallen behind, completing classroom instrument sets, introducing new equipment for arts lessons, and facilitating professional development and arts residencies. With a limit of up to $2,500 per request, schools can receive a maximum of $5,000 annually, fostering an environment where arts education can thrive as an integral part of overcoming pandemic-related educational challenges.
