SMIF believes in the potential of small communities to thrive with the right resources. It is dedicated to empowering these communities to adapt and grow amidst economic and community changes, emphasizing the importance of local assets and leadership in driving development and well-being.
The Inclusive and Equitable Communities Grants by the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation aim to support communities in creating inclusive and welcoming environments while advancing equitable opportunities for all, particularly focusing on refugees, immigrants, and BIPOC individuals. Amidst the demographic shifts in southern Minnesota, there is a pressing need for leaders who embody inclusiveness and can drive entrepreneurship and talent development. The grant encourages initiatives that build relationships among diverse groups, strategize towards inclusivity, and activate community engagement and leadership among BIPOC and immigrant or refugee individuals. Projects might include entrepreneurial education programs, community dialogues for inclusivity, expanded business resource access, and systems to advance equity and mitigate the racial wealth gap. Priority is given to proposals that create economic opportunities for diverse populations, focus on well-being for those experiencing inequities, remove access barriers, and ensure the sustainability of initiatives beyond initial funding.
