The Beinecke Scholarship Program was established by The Sperry and Hutchinson Company's Board of Directors to honor Edwin, Frederick, and Walter Beinecke. The mission is to provide substantial scholarships for the graduate education of young men and women of exceptional promise. This initiative supports highly motivated students in pursuing graduate study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences without geographic restrictions, aiming to encourage courageous choices in their course of study.
The grant program focuses on encouraging and enabling highly motivated college juniors to pursue graduate studies in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. It supports students of exceptional promise by providing substantial scholarships for their graduate education at any accredited university worldwide. The Beinecke Scholarship Program allows recipients to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships, and research grants, urging them to begin graduate study immediately after college and to utilize all funding within five years of undergraduate completion. Each year, approximately 135 U.S. colleges and universities are invited to nominate a student for the scholarship, with up to 20 new scholarships awarded annually.
