The Mission of the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic is to engage in the ministry of Jesus Christ and the mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA) as described in the Great Ends of the Church by providing information, encouragement, and support in caring for its member presbyteries, congregations, and members.
These grants, scholarships, and funds aim to support the work of the church in various capacities, with a specific emphasis on Christian higher education in North Carolina. First priority is given to Presbyterian colleges. The financial support for these initiatives comes from the generosity of Presbyterians through individual, group, or congregational donations, bequests, life insurance beneficiary designations, and gifts of securities, real estate, or annuities. The Carl E. and Florence L. Berger Fund, in particular, was established to support these causes, funded by a pooled income fund and bequest from the Berger’s estate.
