USITT connects performing arts design and technology communities, to foster vibrant dialogue among practitioners, educators, and students. Founded in 1960, it promotes dialogue, research, and learning within theatre design and technology. USITT is committed to providing life-long learning opportunities in the entertainment design and technology industry.
The Student Engagement Grants, supported by Howard Vincent Kurtz, aim to encourage and assist emerging theater artists, who are seen as the future of the industry. These grants are designed to support academic expenses, including research, travel to conferences or research institutions, and project completion costs. Specifically, the grants aid in supplementing a realized production. Annually, up to $1,200 is provided to USITT student members for academic costs along with a complimentary full-Conference registration for the Annual Conference & Stage Expo. Additionally, grant recipients are paired with a mentor in their specific field of theatre design and technology for a minimum of six months, facilitating mentorship, education, and a foundation for lasting professional relationships.
