The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.
NPS ABPP awards financial assistance through four grant opportunities: Preservation Planning, Battlefield Restoration, Battlefield Interpretation, and Battlefield Land Acquisition. Specifically, the Battlefield Interpretation Grants aim to modernize and enhance education at eligible Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War sites. These grants support scoping and implementation of historic preservation projects, requiring a dollar-for-dollar non-Federal match, and are open to state, local, and tribal governments, as well as nonprofit organizations. Funding comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, supported by earnings from offshore oil and gas leasing. There are two types of grants: Scoping Grants for early-stage project development and Implementation Grants for projects with draft content and design plans ready.
