The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.
The grant focuses on supporting community-driven stewardship of historic resources, particularly in the preservation and interpretation of important battlefield sites. It offers four grant opportunities: Preservation Planning, Battlefield Restoration, Battlefield Interpretation, and Battlefield Land Acquisition. The Battlefield Land Acquisition Grants (BLAG) specifically assist in preserving eligible Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War battlefield lands through acquisition, supporting both fee-simple and less-than-fee interests. Funding comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and requires a dollar-for-dollar non-Federal match. Grants target acquisition of sites listed in significant advisory reports and allow nonprofit organizations to acquire sites in partnership with state or local governments.
