The mission of the Bureau of Reclamation is to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public.
The grant program under discussion invites sponsors of eligible water reuse projects to request cost-shared funding for the planning, design, and/or construction of such projects. This funding effort is part of the Title XVI Water Reclamation and Reuse Program, which focuses on utilizing water recycling to extend limited water supplies in the Western United States, thereby enhancing water efficiency, providing resilience during shortages, and diversifying water sources. The program also aims to support projects that align with federal priorities such as those outlined in Presidential Executive Orders on tackling the climate crisis and advancing racial equity, notably contributing to the Justice40 Initiative, which seeks to ensure that a significant portion of certain federal investment benefits reaches disadvantaged communities.
