The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office)'s mission is to advance the practice of community policing by state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies through information and grant resources. This mission is aligned with its role within the U.S. Department of Justice to support law enforcement agencies in building stronger community relationships and enhancing public safety.
The FY 24 Tribal Resources Grant Program – Technical Assistance (TRGP-TA) Alaska Tribal Law Enforcement Technical Assistance Project focuses on providing technical assistance to support Alaska Tribes in law enforcement efforts. This includes assistance in starting law enforcement agencies, developing policies and procedures, addressing jurisdictional challenges, and other unique needs specific to Alaska Tribes and tribal law enforcement. Additionally, the program aims to develop a report on the current state of tribal law enforcement in Alaska, assessing services, needs, challenges, and identifying areas of greatest need and unique barriers. This assessment will inform further technical assistance provided under the program and guide the COPS Office's future efforts.
