NIJ is the research, development and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. We are dedicated to improving knowledge and understanding of crime and justice issues through science.
The grant program from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) aims to fund research and program evaluation projects that focus on the intervention and prevention of intentional, interpersonal firearm violence and mass shootings in the United States. It specifically looks to support projects in two areas: research on mass shootings, including topics like insider threat, leakage, and the impact of news and social media; and research evaluating the effectiveness of campaigns directed through school systems or personnel to encourage safe firearm storage among the families of school-aged children. This program supports the DOJ's broader objectives of upholding the rule of law, keeping the country safe, and protecting civil rights.
