    Overview

The Discovery of Early Type 1 Diabetes Disease Processes in the Human Pancreas funding opportunity is aimed at exploring human pancreatic tissues and immune compartments to uncover specific signaling or processing pathways contributing to the asymptomatic phase of T1D. It seeks the discovery of early biomarkers of T1D pathogenesis, development of diagnostic tools for early detection and staging in at-risk or recently diagnosed individuals, and identification and biological validation of therapeutic targets for preventative or early treatment strategies. Successful applicants will join the CBDS and contribute to its mission under the broader HIRN framework. This program specifically emphasizes research increasing our understanding of human disease biology over animal models and does not support applications proposing clinical trials.
