The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The grant program focuses on developing Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve the prediction accuracy for disease manifestation in individuals with pathogenic genetic variants. It aims to bring together researchers under the MAGen Consortium to examine both genomic and non-genomic factors that influence disease in individuals carrying these variants. The effort will utilize existing data across various modalities for tool development and ensure their applicability in genomic translational research through rigorous cross-validation. Additionally, the program will address the ethical, legal, and social issues related to incorporating ML/AI in genomic medicine by creating an ELSI framework and conducting related research projects.
