The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The grant program aims to recruit and retain outstanding postdoctoral-level health professionals who show potential and interest in pursuing careers as clinician-investigators. It focuses on enhancing the research workforce by providing mentored research opportunities for Resident-Investigators and supporting the transition to individual career development research awards. Specifically, it supports institutions offering up to 2 years of research training in structured clinician-investigator programs with defined milestones, excluding the independent leading of clinical trials but allowing participation in trials led by mentors.
