The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The initiative aims to support research focused on improving health and promoting health equity among rural populations, which are disproportionately affected by various health issues, including high rates of morbidity, disability, and premature death. To achieve meaningful advancement in rural health, this funding opportunity encourages the development, adaptation, or implementation of intervention strategies addressing social determinants of health (SDOH). Priority is given to studies that propose methodological approaches aimed at enhancing access to, and the acceptability and effectiveness of, health interventions in these communities. Emphasis is placed on utilizing community-engaged research approaches that leverage the strengths of rural areas.
