To foster health and well-being by providing federal leadership, partnership and resources for the compassionate and effective delivery of human services
This grant program is designed to generate evidence for effectively implementing child welfare practices that are culturally appropriate for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) children, aiming to prevent maltreatment, and removal from their families and communities, thereby improving their safety, permanency, and well-being. It focuses on funding state and tribal partnerships to design and operate Indian child welfare best practice implementation demonstration sites. These partnerships must include the state Court Improvement Program, the state child welfare agency, and one or more tribal governments or tribal consortia, including corresponding tribal courts. The effort emphasizes collaboration between state and tribal courts and Indian child welfare agencies to address challenges in providing effective Indian child welfare practices. The ultimate goal is to maintain and preserve AI/AN families, allowing children to stay connected to their communities and cultures while implementing culturally appropriate best practices in Indian child welfare.
